Liam Payne, former member of the popular boyband One Direction, has passed away at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to local police.
The incident occurred at a hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighbourhood, as confirmed by a police statement.
Payne rose to fame as part of One Direction, a British boyband that formed in 2010 after the members—Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Payne—competed on the UK reality show The X Factor.
The group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2015, following which Payne launched a solo career, releasing his debut album, LP1, in 2019. In March of this year, he released his album Teardrops.
Payne leaves behind a son, born in 2017, whom he shared with Cheryl Cole, a former member of the Girls Aloud singing group.
