Macron Urges for More Results Against Illegal Immigration During Morocco Visit

During a three-day visit to Morocco aimed at improving bilateral relations, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasised the need for “even more results” in addressing illegal immigration. Speaking to the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat on Tuesday, Macron highlighted the importance of the “reinforced exceptional partnership” established previously, urging King Mohammed VI to prioritise cooperation on illegal immigration and consular matters.

“We need even more results,” Macron stated, calling for streamlined processes that would enable Morocco to reclaim its nationals from France more efficiently.

Illegal immigration has long been a contentious issue between France and Morocco.

On the topic of Western Sahara, Macron reaffirmed France’s support for Moroccan sovereignty over the largely Moroccan-controlled but disputed territory. He announced that French companies would contribute to the region’s development, asserting that the present and future of Western Sahara should remain under Moroccan sovereignty.

The French President also pledged investments and sustainable support initiatives aimed at benefiting local populations in the area.
