Exploits University, Malawi has revoked a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration the institution awarded to its former student Bridget Thapwile Soko.
This is coming after a video posted on social media showed Soko singing while burning the degree after being unable to secure a job with it.
The privately-run Exploits University in the capital, Lilongwe, told Bridget Thapwile Soko that it was disappointed with the video because it tarnished the image of the institution and said it had decided to invalidate her learner’s degree certificate with immediate effect.
In the video, the woman is heard saying the degree is of no use to her since she is failing to secure a job with it hence her move to set it on fire.
In response to the burning degree saga, the University management revoked the degree.
Below is the statement:
The revocation of Soko’s certificate has provoked debates on social media about unemployment, employability, and the functionality of education offered in institutions of higher learning in contemporary times.
