Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe has expressed confidence that his team would bounce back from their 1-0 defeat in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund and secure a spot in the final.
“We’re confident that we’ll come back from that score and reach the final,” Mbappe told reporters in Paris during an event with 2,000 children organised by his “Inspired by KM” association.
In the upcoming second leg on Tuesday, PSG will host Dortmund, needing a victory to keep their hopes alive of advancing to the final at Wembley on June 1, following Niclas Fuellkrug’s goal in Germany last week.
Acknowledging the pressure surrounding the crucial tie, Mbappe emphasised the importance of the occasion, stating, “There’s a lot of pressure, which is normal because there’s a place in the Champions League final at stake, which is very important. Especially when you consider the club’s record in the competition.”
Despite the pressure, Mbappe highlighted the calmness within the team, expressing belief in their ability to overturn the deficit and progress to the final.
Mbappe credited his participation in the event with the children for helping him prepare mentally for the decisive match, stating, “In any case, a day like this is good for the development of the man I am. And I’m sure I’ll arrive at the match in a good mood, ready to defend my team’s colours and help us qualify for the final.”
With speculations surrounding his future, Mbappe’s upcoming match against Dortmund could potentially be his last chance to win the Champions League with PSG, as he is set to depart the club at the end of his contract this summer. Although his destination for the next season remains uncertain, Real Madrid appears to be the frontrunner to secure his services.
