The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, assuring the public that he is being closely tracked.
Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Emeka Onumajuru, made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday.
He confirmed that the military is aware of Turji’s location but declined to disclose details for operational reasons. However, he assured that neutralising the bandit remains a top priority.
“As I speak, Bello Turji is in hiding, and the Armed Forces is tracking him. Very soon, he will be eliminated,” Onumajuru stated.

He urged Nigerians to be patient, explaining that tracking and eliminating a high-profile target takes time but will be accomplished soon.
Residents Urged to Reject Levy Payments
A Sokoto State lawmaker, Honourable Aminu Almustapha Boza, recently confirmed Turji’s presence in Isa Local Government Area, where he has been extorting locals.
Onumajuru urged residents to reject Turji’s demands, assuring them of military protection. “The Armed Forces is there to protect you. Do not pay any levy or ransom,” he stated.
Military’s Renewed Pursuit
This is not the first time the military has vowed to capture Turji. In December 2024, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa confirmed that operations were in progress, with many of Turji’s associates already arrested or killed.
“It’s only a matter of time before he is brought to justice,” General Musa assured.
