The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced two new cases of Mpox, increasing the total number of recorded cases to 119 as of June 22, 2025 in Ghana.
GHS indicated in an update shared on its X page on Friday, June 27, 2025, that no deaths or hospital admissions have been reported in connection with the latest cases.
“2 new Mpox cases recorded, bringing the total to 119. No deaths or admissions have been reported,” the post read.
The GHS urged the public to minimise physical interactions with anyone showing Mpox symptoms.
“Symptoms of Mpox include fever, rash, headache and swollen glands. Protect yourself by avoiding close contact with anyone who has a rash,” it added.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral infection caused by the monkeypox virus. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the disease spreads primarily through close physical contact with someone who is infected. Transmission can occur through direct skin contact — including during sexual activity — as well as through mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-skin contact, such as kissing.
The virus may also spread when individuals are in close proximity for extended periods, for example during conversations or when sharing enclosed spaces.
