Prof. Tahir Mamman, Nigerian Minister of Education, had his phone line hijacked.
Mamman issued a disclaimer on his official X account on Thursday, warning the public not to use the compromised phone number for correspondence.
“My telephone line has been compromised. Please do not contact the number and ignore any messages demanding help until the problem is rectified.
“Thank you for your understanding,” he posted on X.com.
The Ministry of Education has also confirmed the infringement.
The statement said, “The Office of the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, wishes to inform the general public that the Minister’s WhatsApp number has been hacked and is now being used by unauthorised individuals.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and urge everyone to disregard any message of request received from the aforementioned number until further notice.”
“The matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities and is being investigated. We advise the public to be watchful and report any suspicious activities.
According to a statement made Friday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the compromised line is being utilised by unauthorised individuals.
