The naira recorded a modest appreciation against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday, breaking a three-day losing streak.
According to data published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the naira strengthened to ₦1,547.36 per dollar, up from ₦1,549.41 on Thursday. This represents a daily gain of ₦2.05 at the official market.
In the parallel market, however, the Nigerian currency maintained stability, trading at ₦1,600 per dollar—the same rate observed on Thursday. A Bureau De Change operator based in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, Abubakar Alhasan, confirmed this.

“We buy a dollar at ₦1,590 and sell at ₦1,600 on Friday,” said Alhasan.
On a week-on-week basis, the naira appreciated by ₦2.73 at the official window and by ₦6 in the black market, reflecting a slight but notable improvement in the currency’s performance across both segments.
