Namibia’s ruling party, SWAPO, has elected Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as its party president during the 6th Extraordinary Congress held in Windhoek on Saturday.
Currently serving as the party’s vice president, Nandi-Ndaitwah is also Namibia’s president-elect and will be sworn in on March 21, succeeding Dr Nangolo Mbumba as the country’s leader.

Her election marks a historic milestone, as she will become Namibia’s first female president since the formation of SWAPO.
This development signals a significant step towards greater gender representation in leadership, reinforcing the country’s commitment to inclusivity and progress.
As she prepares to take office, Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership is expected to shape the nation’s political and economic landscape, continuing SWAPO’s governance while addressing key national challenges.
Her presidency will be closely watched as Namibia enters a new era under its first female head of state.
