Due to ongoing persistent flight delays and cancellations throughout the holiday season, Chris Najomo, the Director-General of the NCAA, has requested a meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of airlines.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, shared this information on his X handle, stating that Najomo is interrupting a critical assignment to convene with all domestic airline CEOs in Nigeria on Friday, which demonstrates the authority’s commitment to the matter.
Just a few days ago, the NCAA disclosed it would take action against five airlines, noting that this marks the first time in over ten years that the Consumer Protection Department of the NCAA has pursued such actions.
Achimugu added that he had contacted NiMET to send daily weather updates directly to his office, which would help him quickly confirm if an airline is dishonest about weather conditions.
“Many of the disruptions are not the airlines’ fault and the solutions need to be comprehensive, and Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, has exhibited outstanding leadership by addressing the capacity issues that have affected the industry for years. Now, he is focused on adjusting sunset airports with instrument landing systems, among other improvements.”
”This way, certain airports won’t deny clearance to airlines after nightfall. He has revitalised the industry from the state of decay it had been in. Please be patient with him. Perfection in the industry won’t happen in just one year, but substantial progress has been achieved.”
