Nigeria’s vice president, Kashim Shettima, has acknowledged the difficult economic conditions faced by Nigerians, stating that the Nigerian Government is aware of the untold hardship confronting the vast populace, especially the underserved.
Speaking at the 30th anniversary of the Nigerian Economic Summit(NES) in Abuja, Shettima conceded that specific government policies, though painful, were necessary measures taken to tackle pressing economic challenges.
With a strong display of empathy, Shettima reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s and his own unwavering dedication to understanding the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
“My heart and the heart of President Bola Tinubu go to the Nigerian people,” he remarked.
“We empathise with what the poor and the young are going through in the Nigerian nation, but we have no option.”
His speech captured the administration’s perspective on the current economic path. The vice president upheld the government’s position on policies that have been viewed as unfavourable.
He pointed out that although many of the government’s choices are difficult and have caused public unease, they are based on what he characterised as an honest effort to address long-standing economic challenges.
“Some of these decisions are unpopular,” he acknowledged, “but the truth is most often the truth that men prefer not to hear.”
The Vice President emphasised the administration’s stance that even though policy changes are difficult, they aim to achieve long-term economic stability.
