A fire outbreak has occurred reported at the Ebute Ero Market in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
According to her, the fire started in the early hours of Saturday at the market near the Police Station, which is adjacent to Carter Bridge on Lagos Island. She noted that the fire, which burnt all night, was kept from spreading further thanks to the quick reaction of Lagos firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Dolphin, Sari-Iganmu, and Alausa stations.
“Their effective management of the situation minimised further damage,” the statement read.
“Although the fire has been extinguished, it caused the loss of several lock-up shops within the bungalow structures, which primarily trade in tools and kitchenware.
“As the operation winds down with a mop-up exercise, an enumeration is ongoing to determine the number of shops affected and to estimate the value of the losses incurred. An investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire is also underway.”
No casualties have been reported.
