At least 1,868 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), in Sokoto State, NorthWest Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement issued by the state PDP spokesperson in Sokoto on Thursday, Malam Hassan Sanyinnawal.
According to Sanyinnawal, the defectors, who are businessmen from ten communities across the state, were met in Sokoto on Wednesday by the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, who was represented by the party’s zonal chairman for Sokoto Central, Alhaji Muhammad Dangoggo, promising the new PDP members of equitable treatment.
The PDP Chairman pledged to support the new members and urged them to utilise their wealth of experience in politics and business to ensure the party’s triumph in the upcoming 2023 General Elections.
Malam Sa’idu Umar, the PDP candidate for governor of the state, extended a warm welcome to the new members and pledged to work closely with every one of them to ensure the success of the party.
Umar thanked the defectors, noting that “their decision demonstrates their combined passion to support Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s good leadership style.”
Alhaji Lawali Lalala, who addressed on behalf of the defectors, stated that their choice was based on their belief in the PDP-led government’s development efforts in the state.
Lalala pledged their total allegiance and support to the PDP and offered to collaborate with the party’s leadership to ensure its triumph in the upcoming national elections.
