According to the Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s imports from Asia amounted to ₦5,580.60 billion in Q2 2024, accounting for 44.74% of total imports.
Imports from Europe hit ₦4,934.03 billion (39.56%), while America and Africa contributed ₦1,337.28 billion (10.72%) and ₦555.48 billion (4.45%) respectively.
Goods imported from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) made up ₦166.37 billion (1.33%) of imports, with Oceania providing ₦66.14 billion (0.53%).
During the same period, the merchandise trade balance remained positive at ₦6,945.40 billion, up 33.63% from Q1.
The bulk of the imported items are energy and food products. Oil products and agricultural goods were the top five items purchased by Nigeria from foreign countries.
