The Minister of Information in Nigeria, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national security, transparency, and environmental sustainability during the seventh edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
In the press event, which was covered live by News Central TV and other media platforms, Minister Idris said the forum was part of the administration’s promise to engage the public directly on national issues and achievements under President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
“This forum presents a vital opportunity for both ministers to update Nigerians on the key achievements, ongoing initiatives, and policy directions of the Ministries of Defence and Environment,” he said, referencing participating ministers—Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas.
Idris praised the armed forces for their efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality, citing the government’s significant investment in intelligence, training, and international partnerships.

“The Tinubu administration has demonstrated this resolve… through the acquisition of advanced platforms and armaments, enhanced intelligence gathering, intensive training and retraining of personnel, and strategic global partnerships,” he noted.
The Minister also addressed the media’s role in shaping national perception and countering extremist narratives:
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave… These are not freedom fighters; they are murderers, kidnappers, and destroyers, and they must be presented as such.”
Turning to environmental matters, Idris said Nigerians would be briefed on milestones concerning ecosystem preservation and green initiatives. He highlighted the importance of sustainability in line with global and national priorities.
The Ministerial Press Briefing Series, which began in February, will continue in the lead-up to the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations, featuring all cabinet ministers.
“Every minister will have the opportunity to address the public through this platform,” Idris said. “Your efforts in informing the Nigerian public about government programmes and policies are invaluable.”
