Civil servants in Cross River State were locked out of their workplaces for the second time in two days, after being shut out of the office on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the walkout spread to other offices, with the Cross River Geographic Information Agency, a Lands ministry agency, locking its gates and its employees loitering about.
Prior to storming the gate, they parked their vehicles alongside the road.
In response, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Benedict Ukpepi, condemned the act as a disgrace to the civil service.
“Labour can only talk to workers to follow service regulations but the head of service should talk to the governor. Labour cannot support any wrong thing because civil servants are supposed to be in office by 7:30am, while work starts by 8 am but the approach of locking workers out is what we are complaining about,” he said.
The employees complained that their tardiness to work was due to low morale.
