Personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta have successfully located and destroyed a dump site utilised for illegal oil refining activities within the creeks of the Niger Delta.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, illicit refining, and pipeline vandalism within the NNS Delta’s operational area, according to Commander Abdulazeez Zubairu.

Commander Zubairu informed journalists in Warri on Saturday that the discovery was made possible by intelligence gathered on the activities of illegal bunkerers in the creeks.

Consequently, a team of 14 naval personnel, supported by two gunboats and one speedboat, was deployed to the creeks on June 19, 2025, to conduct the operation.

The team proceeded to the Obotebe community in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, where they uncovered the dump site used for illegal refining.

During the operation, the naval team recovered various items, including a 1.5-horsepower Yamaha engine, a generator, six pumping machines, and two rolls of hoses.

Commander Zubairu explained that this exercise aligns with “Operation Delta Sanity 11,” conducted under the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
