Nigerian troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully thwarted an early morning infiltration attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at the Naval Base in Lake Chad Fish Dam.
The coordinated joint operation, involving land, maritime, and air forces, resulted in the neutralisation of numerous insurgents.
The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m., reportedly aimed to destroy recently acquired swamp buggies deployed by the Borno State Government to clear waterways in the Lake Chad region. However, naval personnel at the base mounted strong resistance, quickly receiving reinforcements from Baga.

A fierce gun battle lasted over two hours, ultimately forcing the heavily casualty-ridden insurgents to retreat. The troops successfully protected the swamp buggies, and several improvised explosive device (IED) materials were recovered from the fleeing terrorists.
While the attackers failed to breach the main base, a limited incursion led to the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles. Several personnel sustained injuries during the engagement.
Air platforms under Operation Hadin Kai are currently conducting follow-up operations along the waterways to track and eliminate any remaining terrorist elements.
This successful defence highlights the ongoing efforts of Nigerian security forces to safeguard vital infrastructure in the Lake Chad region and restrict terrorist groups’ movement and influence.
