Nigeria’s Femi Odugbemi Appointed to Prestigious Oscar Academy Role

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Femi Odugbemi has been appointed to the International Engagement Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a prestigious global role within the Oscar body. This committee is responsible for shaping the Academy’s international engagement strategy, particularly focusing on membership, governance, and impact initiatives.

Odugbemi’s one-year appointment, which runs until June 30, 2025, will see him collaborate with professionals from around the world to promote global inclusivity and strengthen international connections within the film industry. The committee will meet virtually three times over the next year, with sessions scheduled in October, February, and April to accommodate global time zones.

Expressing his excitement, Femi Odugbemi said, “I am honored to join the Academy’s International Engagement Committee and excited to contribute to its efforts in promoting global representation and strengthening international connections within the film industry.” 

Committee members are required to undergo unconscious bias training and must adhere to the Academy’s Standards of Conduct. Discussions within the committee are confidential, fostering a constructive and secure environment for deliberations.

This appointment shows Odugbemi’s rising influence in the global film industry and highlights the Academy’s commitment to promoting diverse voices and perspectives worldwide.
