As the world commemorated the 2025 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, delivered a heartfelt message highlighting the unifying power of cultural diversity and the urgent need for inclusive dialogue and mutual respect among Nigerians.
In her official statement released on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the First Lady remarked:
“The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development highlights the profound strength that lies in our differences and the shared humanity that connects us all. There is indeed strength and unity in diversity.”
She described Nigeria as a nation “blessed with over 250 ethnic groups, each speaking a different language,” but stressed that unity is not found in uniformity, but rather in respectful collaboration and shared understanding.

“It is through our dialogue, our interactions, and our mutual respect that we find true identity and unity,” Senator Tinubu stated.
Encouraging citizens to appreciate their cultural wealth and practise empathy in their daily lives, she urged Nigerians to see diversity as a strength, not a divide.
“On this day, I encourage every Nigerian to celebrate our cultural richness, to listen with empathy, and to lead with understanding. Let us embrace this journey together and shape a brighter future for Nigeria and the world.”
Her message aligns with the global goal of the United Nations in marking the day — fostering peace, respect, and sustainable development through intercultural understanding.
