Nigeria’s power grid has collapsed once more, plunging the entire nation into darkness. According to the website of the Independent System Operator (ISO), a branch of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) responsible for overseeing electricity transfers, the grid’s transmission dropped to 0.00 megawatts by 7pm. This means no electricity was transmitted from the generation stations to the 11 distribution companies across the country.
Prior to the collapse, the grid was transmitting 3,566 megawatts around 6pm.
As of 8:45pm, checks revealed that the grid had not yet recovered, still showing 0.00MW.
Confirming the incident, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), through its X handle, reported that the collapse occurred at 6:48pm.
The message, signed by Sani Bala Sani, Head of Corporate Communications, stated: “We regret to inform you that the current power outage in our franchise area is due to a system disturbance that occurred at 06:48pm today, 14th October 2024.
“This has affected our ability to distribute electricity to our esteemed customers. We kindly appeal for patience as we work to monitor the situation and restore power as soon as possible.”
Sani also urged customers to stay vigilant and protect electricity infrastructure from potential vandalism during the outage.
