The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm over what it described as a “coordinated sabotage campaign” targeting its leadership and ongoing reforms.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company alleged that a syndicate of known and faceless actors—operating from within and outside the organisation—is actively working to discredit its leadership and obstruct its transformation agenda.
According to NNPC Ltd., the group behind this campaign has been deliberately spreading lies and misinformation to derail the company’s push toward becoming a transparent, corruption-free, and performance-driven energy institution, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.
“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians,” the company said.
The oil giant further described the sabotage efforts as the desperate moves of individuals and groups unsettled by ongoing reforms promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency within Nigeria’s foremost energy company.

“As reforms deepen, we expect a surge of defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead,” the company warned, reaffirming its determination to stay the course. “NNPC Ltd. remains undeterred. The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it.”
The management called on its staff, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to remain resolute and disregard any false narratives to distract from the organisation’s mission.
“We urge our dedicated staff, stakeholders, and all patriotic Nigerians to stay focused, ignore the noise, and not be discouraged. We remain on mission,” the statement concluded.
The development adds to the growing tensions within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector as the government pursues sweeping reforms to sanitise operations and restore public trust in a historically opaque industry.
