The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the tragic killing of 13 individuals in the Ogboji community, located within the Orumba South Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that some gunmen, arriving in two SUVs on Monday, stormed the area during a monthly meeting. They opened fire, killing several people, and also shot into the air before quickly fleeing the scene.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, described the attack as a “dastardly act”. He also extended the state government’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
Mefor said, “The Anambra State Government is deeply saddened by the recent killing of innocent lives at Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area. The government strongly condemns this dastardly act in the strongest possible terms and extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

“We want to assure the good people of Anambra and beyond that this incident was not targeted at any particular state or ethnic group.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the unfortunate incident may have stemmed from an internal squabble.”
Mefor clarified that the recent attack was not aimed at any specific ethnic group or state. He stated that early investigations into the incident point towards an internal dispute as the underlying cause.
He further added that the state government expects the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that all those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
“The government assures the people of Ogboji and the entire state that we will do everything humanly possible to ensure justice is served.
“We urge all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended. We will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and security in our great state,” he added.
