Ogun State Prepares for Local Government Elections

Ogun State Governor Prince-Dapo-Abiodun

The upcoming local government elections in Ogun State are scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.

This information was announced by Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, in a statement released to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

According to the statement, guidelines for conducting the elections and a stakeholders’ meeting will be released on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Political parties will begin their campaigns on Friday, August 9.

Additionally, party primaries are set to take place between Monday, August 26, and Monday, September 9, 2024.

It is important to note that last month, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, debunked a false statement circulating on social media that claimed the next local government elections would occur on October 26, 2024.

The tenure of the previously elected local government officials ended about a week ago.
