In a move aimed at eradicating kidnapping, the Ondo State Government has proposed a death sentence for individuals found guilty of the crime within the state.
Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, disclosed this on Saturday following a state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Ajulo stated that the proposal would soon be sent to the state House of Assembly for legislative action.
He emphasised that “kidnapping and cultism have become major threats to safety and public order, and strengthening relevant legal frameworks would help deter such crimes and improve the overall security landscape.”
The Attorney-General reiterated that the proposals include sentencing convicted kidnappers to death.

In addition to the legal reforms, Engineer Abiola Olawoye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, announced that the Executive Council approved the construction of two significant dual-carriageway road projects.
The first project involves a 24.75-kilometre dual carriageway connecting Ugbeyin Junction to Igbokoda Jetty, passing through Okitipupa Market and OAUSTECH. This road will feature a 9.3-metre-wide carriageway on both sides, a 1.2-metre median, concrete drains, walkways, asphaltic shoulders, a 3-metre utility area, and solar-powered streetlights.
Designed to handle heavy traffic, its total corridor is 28 meters wide with a 40-meter right-of-way, and it will include modern traffic lights at key intersections.
The second project is a 6.7-kilometre dual carriageway from Supare Junction to Akungba-Ikare Road in the Akoko area. This road will have similar specifications, including a 9.3-metre carriageway on each side, a 1.2-metre median, reinforced concrete drains, walkways, a 3-metre utility area, solar-powered streetlights, and traffic management systems, built to withstand heavy vehicular movement.
Furthermore, the council approved the installation of 6,000 standalone solar streetlights across the state’s three senatorial districts, with 2,000 lights allocated to each: Ondo North, Ondo Central, and Ondo South. This initiative is part of the state’s broader agenda to enhance safety and public lighting infrastructure.
