The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed on Tuesday that one male died and three others suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash near Otedola Bridge in Lagos.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, confirmed this information in a statement, noting that two injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital.
He said multiple vehicle collisions happened while the agency recovered a fallen 40-foot container.
“During an overnight operation aimed at the safe retrieval of a fallen 40-foot container for eventual delivery to the LASTMA Office in Oshodi, another multi-vehicle accident occurred along the same route on Otedola Bridge.
“When our team arrived at the scene of this secondary incident nearby, it was found that a multi-truck collision involving four articulated trucks loaded with containers had occurred.
“Investigations indicated that the crash was caused by reckless driving. The trucks involved became entangled due to the impact force during the collision.
“One adult male was found trapped beneath the first truck from the initial accident and unfortunately did not survive,” he stated, adding that three other adult males suffered various injuries and received immediate medical assistance at the scene before being transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre.
He said safety protocols were implemented and enforced to prevent further incidents at the location.
