Beloved Filipino screen icon Nora Aunor has died at 71, leaving behind an unmatched legacy in film and television.
The heartbreaking news was shared by her daughter, Lotlot de Leon, who took to Instagram to honour her mother’s remarkable life, expressing both profound grief and heartfelt gratitude for the indelible mark she left on countless lives.
She wrote: “Nora Aunor, It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, celebrated television and movie actress, and a true National Artist of the Philippines, Nora Aunor.
Nora Aunor, a revered figure in Philippine television and cinema, was more than just a celebrated actress — she was a true National Artist whose influence spanned generations.

She first captured the public’s attention in the 1960s with her powerful voice, carving out a name for herself as a singer before seamlessly transitioning into acting. Her career blossomed with critically acclaimed roles that garnered her a multitude of prestigious awards.
In 2022, her immense contribution to the nation’s artistic heritage was formally recognised when she was conferred the title of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts — the highest distinction bestowed upon Filipino artists.
