Police authorities in Lagos State have arrested thirty-two individuals in connection with the violent attacks at the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Akoka, Lagos.
In a statement, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, detailed the events leading to the arrests.
“For more than three months, staff members of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, locked the Provost out of his office,” he shared in a post on his X handle late Monday.
“A team appointed by the Minister of Education visited the school today to mediate the ongoing conflict. However, staff, with the help of students, attacked the team from Abuja, damaging over five vehicles and the Provost’s official residence.
“The rioting staff and students then blocked all entrances to and from the college. The police arrived on the scene and restored order after being attacked with stones and sachets of water by the rioters.
“Meanwhile, thirty-two suspects have been arrested, and officers from the Nigeria Police Force Area Command in Surulere remain on-site to ensure the peace is maintained.”
The school authorities have not commented on the situation.
