Former President Goodluck Jonathan has told Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara that the state’s political issue will not disrupt his administration.
On Sunday, Jonathan spoke at an event at the Nihi Community in the Etche Local Government Area of the State.
Despite the political war waged against him, Fubara would finally emerge as a “general in politics,” according to him.
“I know you (Fubara) are going through a difficult time, and I try to remain silent on such situations. “I don’t like saying certain things,” Jonathan admitted.
“But this is your first time holding a high-ranking political office. You will go through a lot, but remember that no one becomes a general without fighting in conflicts.
“So, whatever obstacles you are currently facing are preparing you to become a general in politics. And with your absolute commitment and the support I’ve witnessed from the people of Rivers State, God will undoubtedly see you through,” he stated.
Jonathan emphasised Rivers State’s significance in the Niger Delta region and warned that any unfavourable developments will have a long-term impact on the entire country.
“We want a calm Rivers State since it is the hub of the Niger Delta. And I constantly make it clear: if we cause severe disruption in Rivers State, we will create a problem throughout the Niger Delta, which will be detrimental to our national economy.
“We want a calm River State. We want Rivers State’s governor to be able to remain cool and execute his job. Once he has finished serving, another person will take over.
“In politics, we have tenures. As a result, we are not required to commit suicide for any political post. Allow those who are present to do their task, and then anything can happen,” he said.
The Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers also gave the former president the traditional title of Eze Udo 1 of Etche.
Jonathan and Fubara were in Etche for the 10th anniversary of the coronation of Onye Ishi Agwuru III of Ulakwo-Umuselem, which took place in Etche, Eze Nwala.
