President Muhammadu Buhari has held a meeting with General Mahamat Idriss Deby, son on the late President Idriss Deby and and head of Chad’s Transitional Military Council.
Mahamat Idriss Deby who succeeded his father last month arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja around 11am and was received by President Buhari.
The agenda of the meeting is yet to be established. Pointers suggest that it might have been necessitated by growing concerns over cross-border crimes in the sahel, the need for both countries to find lasting solutions to arms proliferation and the menace of insurgency threatening the peace and security of the sub-region.
Before his death from bullet wounds sustained in battle with rebels in April, Idris Deby had concerted agreements with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
