The much-anticipated American singer Prince’s documentary “Dearly Beloved” has been cancelled.
The late singer’s estate and Netflix, which had intended to stream the Ezra Edelman-directed production, said Thursday that the project would not proceed.
According to the statement, the Prince Estate and Netflix have reached a mutual understanding that will enable the estate to create and publish a new documentary that includes unique material from Prince’s archive. “Therefore, the Netflix documentary will not be made available.”

Soon later, a video with the caption, “The Vault Has Been Freed,” was uploaded by the Prince X account.
The late singer’s estate officials were reportedly unhappy last year with what they perceived as “dramatic” factual errors and “sensationalised” parts of Prince’s life as they were presented in the six-part documentary, which had taken four years to produce.
In April 2016, the singer passed away after unintentionally consuming too much fentanyl, an opioid. He was 57.
