President Cyril Ramaphosa has abruptly cancelled his planned trip to Spain amid rising tensions within South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU).
The development follows his dismissal of Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield, a senior Democratic Alliance (DA) member, for undertaking an unauthorised trip to the United States earlier this year during a period of diplomatic strain.

The DA, a key GNU partner, is reportedly considering withdrawing from the coalition, which is barely a year old. The party is expected to address the nation at a 3pm press conference after Ramaphosa failed to respond to its 48-hour ultimatum.
