American rapper Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, was arrested in Romania after being caught smoking marijuana onstage during his performance at the Beach Please! Festival on Saturday, July 13.

Video footage circulating on social media captured Khalifa openly consuming the substance during the event.

Romanian law enforcement subsequently issued a press release confirming Khalifa’s arrest for “illegal possession of high-risk drugs.”

The statement from the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism revealed that Khalifa was found in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis and was observed smoking another quantity onstage.

“It was noted that he, during a recital held at a music festival taking place in Costinești resort, Constanta county, possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (a high-risk drug) and consumed (onstage) another amount of cannabis in the form of an artisanal cigarette,” the statement partly read.

In response to the incident, Khalifa later expressed regret on social media, emphasising that he did not intend to disrespect Romania.

The rapper, known for his openness about his marijuana use, acknowledged the incident in a post on X, stating, “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up onstage.” Khalifa also thanked Romanian authorities for their professionalism in handling the situation and indicated his intention to return under different circumstances.
