The Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) branch of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has halted a five-day warning strike due to the non-payment of salaries to certain members.

Ashiru Mikail, NARD’s vice president, stated on Tuesday in Zaria that the strike was called off Monday evening. He said doctors resumed work at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The decision to suspend the five-day strike came after a meeting between NARD and the ABUTH management.

“There was a serious commitment from the part of the management to address the demands of the association; the management had pledged to stop percentage salary payments to our members.
“The meeting had also charted robust initiatives to curtail further industrial disharmony between the association and ABUTH management,” he said.

ABUTH management commenced a five-day strike on July 22 to protest the partial salary disbursement for employees on the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) system and the non-payment of the accoutrement allowance, among other grievances.
