Members of the Rivers State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly have declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The Rivers NASS caucus made the declaration in a statement signed by all members and read to journalists by Senator Barry Mpigi in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The caucus, comprising two Senators and seven Members of the House of Representatives, said their decision was based on the visible achievements of Tinubu’s agenda, which they described as “working and on course.”

The nine members are Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Rt Hon Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Hon Felix Nwaeke, Hon Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi.

They urged all aspirants eyeing the presidency in 2027 to step aside.

While praising Tinubu’s economic policies for repositioning Nigeria’s ailing economy, they noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda remains the surest route to national prosperity and progress.

    Their statement read:
“We, the National Assembly members from Rivers State, comprising Senators and Members of the House of Representatives, express profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trust in our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, through his appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“We appreciate the President’s public recognition of the Minister’s exceptional performance, calling him the ‘Master of Infrastructure.’

“After a thorough review of the President’s economic policies, especially in light of the dire situation inherited on 29 May 2023—including a high debt burden and severe inflation fuelled by the Central Bank’s Ways and Means overdrafts—we conclude that the President’s strategy offers Nigeria the best hope for recovery.

“We note the encouraging signs: falling inflation, a significant reduction in foreign debt, and an optimistic IMF growth forecast. These trends promise a better future if sustained.”

The lawmakers also thanked Tinubu for his swift intervention in Rivers State’s political crisis, saying it has initiated the path towards lasting peace.

    They further declared:
“As Rivers State legislators, we unequivocally pledge our unconditional support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“As grassroots representatives, we will embark on extensive mobilisation to deliver an even greater victory than in 2023.

“We call on Nigerians to unite behind the Renewed Hope Agenda and appeal to those with unending presidential ambitions to abandon them, in the interest of national unity and progress.”
