Royal AM’s turbulent season has come to an abrupt end after the South Africa Premier Soccer League’s Board of Governors voted to cancel the club’s membership with immediate effect. Meeting at the Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday, representatives from all 31 other professional teams ratified the Executive Committee’s recommendation to expel the KwaZulu-Natal side, following their failure to fulfil scheduled fixtures earlier this year.
The decision follows Royal AM’s indefinite suspension after playing just 11 matches in the 2024/25 Premiership season. As a result, all points earned against the club have been expunged from the standings, drastically altering the league table.

Royal AM had been placed under SARS curatorship due to a reported tax debt of approximately R40 million, linked to club president Shauwn Mkhize and her family trust.
In a rare move, the league confirmed there will be no automatic relegation this season. Instead, the team finishing 15th will enter the promotion-relegation playoffs to fight for top-flight survival.
