Russia condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities on Tuesday, warning that such actions are driving the world closer to a “nuclear catastrophe.”
In a statement addressing the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Russian Foreign Ministry described the strikes as “illegal under international law.”
The statement further warned that these attacks pose “unacceptable threats to global security” and could push the planet towards a catastrophic nuclear event, with consequences likely to be felt worldwide, including within Israel itself.
“Russia urges the Israeli leadership to come to its senses and immediately cease attacks on nuclear installations that are protected under safeguards and monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” it said.

Moscow expects the UN nuclear watchdog’s senior officials to compile a “detailed written report” for the IAEA’s Investigative Committee and the UN Security Council, assessing the damage caused by Israel’s actions to Iran’s nuclear energy infrastructure.
The statement also suggested that, given the “harsh and uncompromising” global response, Israel’s actions are supported only by a small number of states that serve as its “actual accomplices” acting out of opportunism.
“Russia firmly believes that a sustainable resolution can only be achieved through diplomacy and negotiations. The objectives of nuclear non-proliferation, which are fundamentally anchored in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), must not be pursued through aggression or at the expense of innocent lives,” the statement concluded.
