Safety Concerns Prompt NAFDAC Dove Soap Recall

Nigerian Gov to Curb High Cost of Drugs

Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall for a specific batch of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100 g) with batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany.

According to the agency, the product fails to meet the Cosmetic Products Regulation because of Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a substance prohibited in cosmetic products, because of its potential to harm the reproductive system.

NAFDAC has also cautioned against the use of unregistered cosmetic products that have been previously recalled or prohibited in other countries due to the presence of BMHCA.

The agency has advised importers, distributors, retailers, and healthcare providers to be vigilant in the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, or use of falsified or unregistered medicinal products.

The statement from NAFDAC emphasised that certain products under the Dove brand have been recalled in some European Union countries for safety concerns.
