In a significant boost in the battle against banditry in the north, 80 bandits were eliminated during a coordinated security operation in the Jibia local government area of Katsina State.
The joint assault, conducted on Saturday, focused on well-known hideouts in the state’s Kadoji, Matso-Matso, Bagga, Dogon Marke, and Takatsaba regions.
The Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out the operation in collaboration with troops from the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes.
Responding to reliable intelligence, the joint forces targeted camps that had been centres for rising banditry in Jibia, Batsari, and Batagarawa local government areas of the State.
Besides the 80 bandits who were neutralised, several others sustained injuries, and their operational infrastructure was dismantled, significantly reducing their ability to carry out future attacks on innocent Nigerians.
Dr Nasir Muazu, the State’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, announced the breakthrough on Sunday, commending the security agencies and characterising the operation as a crucial move towards restoring peace in Katsina and the broader North-West region.
He reiterated the state government’s dedication to collaborating closely with security forces and local communities to ensure peace and stability.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and assist ongoing security efforts to foster enduring peace.
