Arne Slot has urged Mohamed Salah to extend his stay at Liverpool, advising the Egyptian superstar against a potentially lucrative move to Saudi Arabia as speculation over his future grows.
Salah, who has been in exceptional form this season, is set to become a free agent in June, prompting ongoing speculation about his next move.
The Saudi Pro League has been heavily linked with the 32-year-old forward, with Saudi sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal confirming in an interview on Thursday that they would love to secure Salah’s services.
“We feel like we are one with the Egyptians, from our culture and our history, and we’d love to have him,” the sports minister said, acknowledging Salah’s potential value to the league.
Salah is currently leading the Premier League’s goalscoring charts with 19 goals this season, and despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has made it clear the club is eager to retain him.

“We want him to extend, of course, as well,” he said. “That is clear, but I’m not surprised that Saudi wants him; I’m also not surprised if other countries want him as well. He’s old and wise enough; he’s done so many smart things in his career that he will make the right decision for himself and hopefully for us as well.”
Although Slot respects Salah’s ability to make his own decisions, he did offer a piece of advice, emphasising his preference for the player to remain at Anfield.
In addition to Salah, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold are also approaching the end of their contracts, leaving the Premier League leaders with crucial decisions to make in the coming months.
Slot, who is preparing for Saturday’s match against in-form Bournemouth, acknowledged the need for open discussions with players about their futures but refrained from commenting on the progress of contract talks.
