Ahead of the 2021 Easter celebrations, the South African government on Tuesday announced that gatherings will be allowed.

Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa’s President made the announcement in a nationwide address saying a maximum of 250 people can be allowed indoor while 500 people can be allowed to gather outdoors.

He however added that nobody will be allowed to sleep over after church services on Easter Day as the nation continues to fight against COVID-19.

South Africa is the continent’s most affected nation with the pandemic but it has proven its giant status with a holistic response that has seen the case incidences reduce in the past few weeks.

A ban was also placed on the sales of liquor to reduce the spread of the virus from gatherings.

With Easter being one of the days celebrated widely by Christians in the world, the South African government is doing all it can to mitigate against what may spur a spread of the virus again after a tumultuous second wave.
