Key attacker David Neres will miss Napoli’s upcoming Serie A match against Lazio after the league leaders announced on Tuesday that he suffered a thigh injury.
According to a statement from Napoli, Neres pulled a muscle in his left thigh during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Udinese, which allowed reigning champions Inter Milan to move within one point of Antonio Conte’s team.
The team did not specify how long Neres would be out, but Italian media report that the 27-year-old won’t be able to play until early March, which would exclude him from Napoli’s Scudetto match against Inter in Naples on March 2.

After it was evident that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would be joining Paris Saint-Germain, Neres, who has eight international caps, joined Napoli from Benfica in the summer and was Conte’s first choice.
Saturday sees Napoli play Lazio in Rome, while Sunday sees Inter go to Turin for a rematch with Juventus.
