Tobi Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, will headline a stellar field at the 2025 Diamond League season opener in Xiamen, China, as she launches her campaign for another title-winning run on the global stage, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Scheduled for April 26 at the Egret Stadium, the Xiamen Meeting marks the third edition of the Chinese leg of the prestigious athletics series and will feature nine track and seven field events in the main program. The official entry list, published Tuesday, confirms Amusan’s participation in what is expected to be a highly competitive women’s 100m hurdles event.
Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022 and currently ranks 13th globally, will be up against a formidable field. Among her rivals are:
- Devynne Charlton (Bahamas), world indoor record holder in the 60m hurdles and ranked 7th globally
- Danielle Williams (Jamaica), world champion and owner of a 12.32 personal best
- Americans Grace Stark, Tonea Marshall, and Nia Ali, all proven contenders on the circuit
Amusan heads into Xiamen following a victorious season opener at Velocity Fest 16 in Jamaica last Saturday, where she clocked 11.28 seconds (-0.5 wind) in the women’s 100m. The race marked her first outing since the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and her debut for the Racers Track Club in Kingston. She finished ahead of Jamaica’s Serena Cole (11.45) and Bahamian Anthonique Strachan (11.46)—a strong return to competition.

Her inclusion in the Xiamen field comes after she placed fifth in last year’s edition, recording a season’s best of 12.58 seconds. That race was won by Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in 12.45 seconds, with Charlton and France’s Cyréna Samba-Mayela also finishing ahead of Amusan.
The 2025 season opener offers an early opportunity for Amusan to regain momentum and reassert herself on the global stage ahead of key events like the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo (September) and the Diamond League Final in Zurich (August).
Joining Amusan in Xiamen will be a lineup of global stars, including:
- Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), Olympic pole vault champion
- Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine), world indoor high jump champion
- Grant Holloway (USA), world 110m hurdles champion
- Letsile Tebogo (Botswana), Olympic champion in the 200m
With a packed calendar and rising stakes, Amusan’s performance in China will be closely watched as she begins her quest for another memorable season.
