Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 10 Boko Haram terrorists during a recent offensive launched between Rann and Gamboru Ngala, near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
The military continues to press on with clearance operations in the southern Lake Chad region.
Speaking in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, the Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, confirmed that troops recovered several weapons during the mission, which took place in the border community of Manawaji.
Among the seized items were anti-aircraft rounds and ordnance weapons, believed to have been stolen during a previous attack on Cameroon’s Defence Force.
“Our troops are sustaining clearance operations across the southern Lake Chad region,” Abubakar said.
“In a recent operation, troops encountered terrorists in Manawaji, between Rann and Gamboru Ngala, and engaged them in combat. Ten were neutralised, and we recovered several weapons, including anti-aircraft ammunition—suspected to have been taken from Cameroon’s Defence Force during an earlier raid.”
Ngala lies 154 kilometres from Maiduguri, while Rann—the administrative centre of Kala-Balge Local Government Area—is 183 kilometres away. Both border communities sit at the fringes of Lake Chad.
The theatre commander commended the troops’ efforts in restoring peace to the Lake Chad and border areas.
He said the recent deployment of new combat equipment had improved morale, adding that the military would not relent until every last terrorist in the region is eliminated.
