US President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that he had “no intention” of easing tariffs on steel and aluminium, as the United States nears the brink of a full-blown trade war with key international partners.
Since January, Trump has introduced tariffs on various imports, including steel and aluminium, sending shockwaves through global financial markets and sparking concerns that the moves could trigger a recession in the world’s largest economy.
During a flight aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters he had no plans to make exceptions to the tariffs, asserting, “No, I have no intention of that.”

Trump further emphasised his commitment to imposing reciprocal tariffs starting on April 2, targeting trade practices that the US administration considers unfair. The announcement raised the possibility of additional tariffs on other products and countries.
“April 2 is a liberating day for our country,” Trump remarked, underscoring his belief that the move would bring substantial economic benefits.
“Billions of dollars have already come into our country, and the big money is coming in from April 2,” he added, reinforcing his position on the trade policies.
