The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called for action against those who authorised and carried out the recent invasion of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

The TUC described this act as a grave violation of fundamental rights, including the freedoms of speech and expression.

In a statement released in Abuja, TUC President Festus Osifo condemned the invasion and urged for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.

Mr. Osifo maintained that the action of security forces in this incident represents an overreach and a direct threat to the rights of Nigerian citizens.

“We must ensure that our rights are protected and that security agencies operate within the legal boundaries set by our Constitution,” he stated.

News Central reports that heavily armed security personnel raided the headquarters of the NLC in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

The NLC, through its Spokesperson Benson Upah, stated that the operatives broke into the Labour House around 8:30 pm, ransacking the bookshop on the 2nd floor and seizing hundreds of books and other publications.

The security personnel claimed they were searching for seditious materials related to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The NLC condemned the raid, adding that the operatives provided no legal documents to justify their actions.

The union described the incident as a violation of democratic principles, and called for the immediate withdrawal of security forces from its premises.
