United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reinforced its commitment to peace and stability across Africa with a significant $500,000 donation to the African Union (AU) Peace Fund. The contribution aligns with the AU’s mission to promote security, conflict resolution, and sustainable development in line with the Africa Agenda 2063 vision of a unified and prosperous continent.
The AU Peace Fund plays a key role in financing mediation efforts and preventive diplomacy to address conflicts across Africa. By supporting this initiative, the bank demonstrates its dedication to fostering economic growth through regional stability. The bank’s commitment reflects its long-standing belief that peace is fundamental to sustainable development.
Chairman of the AU Peace Fund Executive Management Committee, Moussa Faki Mahamat, emphasised the importance of financial support in achieving stability, stating that peace is synonymous with resources. He praised UBA for its dedication to Africa’s development and acknowledged the donation as a testament to the bank’s commitment to securing a better future for the continent.

UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, announced the donation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, highlighting the crucial role of corporate institutions in shaping Africa’s future. He stressed that investment in peace and security creates an environment where businesses, communities, and nations can thrive, ultimately driving economic prosperity. According to Elumelu, sustainable development is closely linked to stability, and UBA remains committed to uplifting lives across Africa by fostering both economic growth and security.
With operations in over 20 African countries, UBA firmly believes in the continent’s potential. Elumelu urged businesses and organisations to contribute to the collective effort of achieving peace, as development is only possible in a stable environment. He also commended the African Union for its dedication to ensuring peace and security, expressing UBA’s pride in partnering with the organisation and seeking deeper collaboration in the future.

UBA Group has consistently demonstrated its commitment to Africa’s progress. The bank’s philanthropic arm, the UBA Foundation, previously provided $14 million in support of a Pan-African response to the COVID-19 pandemic, supplying relief materials, critical care facilities, and financial assistance to Nigeria and 19 other African nations.
The AU Peace Fund, a crucial financial mechanism under the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), supports peace-building initiatives, conflict prevention, and institutional capacity building across the continent.
With a presence in Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates, UBA offers retail, commercial, and institutional banking services. The bank is a major employer in Africa’s financial sector, with 25,000 staff members serving over 45 million customers worldwide.
