The United Nations has formally agreed to investigate human rights violations in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where ongoing violence has devastated local communities.
On Friday, 47 member states of the UN Human Rights Council approved the establishment of a fact-finding mission to examine serious human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law in the region.

The eastern DRC has been plagued by conflict, with the M23 armed group accused of committing widespread atrocities, including killings, sexual violence, and mass displacement of civilians.
The President of the Human Rights Council confirmed the adoption of the resolution, describing it as a crucial step in addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis.
The investigation aims to uncover the full scale of the violence and ensure accountability for those responsible, with the ultimate goal of delivering justice and restoring peace to affected communities.
