The Managing Director and CEO of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2025 Anambra governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During his declaration, Okonkwo emphasised his deep commitment to the development of Anambra State, stating that his decision to run was inspired by extensive consultations with stakeholders and a strong desire to serve.
Addressing APC members and supporters, Okonkwo described Anambra as a land of limitless potential blessed with some of Nigeria’s brightest minds, industrious entrepreneurs, and resilient citizens. However, he lamented that the state had failed to reach its full potential, citing insecurity, economic stagnation, and governance shortfalls.

Okonkwo outlined his vision and mission, stating that his campaign is not just about winning an election but a movement to reclaim Anambra from stagnation. His governance blueprint is centred around eight key pillars: Security and Good Governance, Economic Transformation and Job Creation, Infrastructure Development, Education and Human Capital Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Technology and Skills Acquisition, Value Reorientation and Reclaiming the State’s Heritage.
Obiora Okonkwo pledged to prioritise security, working closely with law enforcement agencies and investing in community policing to restore peace in the state. He also promised to create a business-friendly environment that attracts investment, supports local entrepreneurs, and generates employment.
The APC hopeful vowed to revamp Anambra’s education system, ensuring that vocational training and skills development prepare the youth for the future. He also pledged massive infrastructural renewal, focusing on roads, markets, schools, and hospitals.
On agriculture, Okonkwo promised an agribusiness revolution, empowering farmers and utilizing Anambra’s fertile land to enhance food security and wealth creation. He assured APC members of his loyalty to the party’s principles and his readiness to lead Anambra into a new era of transformation.
With his declaration, Obiora Okonkwo joins a growing list of aspirants vying to lead Anambra State in the upcoming election.
