Virgil van Dijk has called on Liverpool’s players and fans to make Anfield a “horrible” place for opponents as they push for the Premier League title.

Liverpool sit 11 points clear at the top of the table after Sunday’s 2-0 victory over champions Manchester City, with Arsenal in second place and holding a game in hand. Arne Slot’s side are closing in on a record-equalling 20th league title, with seven of their remaining 11 fixtures to be played at Anfield.

Despite recent nervy performances, including a 2-1 win against Wolves, Van Dijk believes the fans can play a key role.

    Anfield Advantage Crucial

“There could be some anxious feelings kicking in, but I think it only helps us if we make Anfield horrible for the opponent,” said the Liverpool captain.

“So let’s make sure those seven home games are amazing, as loud as possible.”

    Eyes on the Title

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai secured Liverpool’s first league win at the Etihad in nearly a decade, as Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham boosted their title hopes.

Fans chanted “We’re going to win the league” in the closing moments, looking forward to their second English league title since 1990.

However, Van Dijk remains focused: “The result gives the fans belief, but we must stay concentrated. It’s all about recovery and being ready for Newcastle on Wednesday. We need our fans in great shape.”
